Research
into fonts and how they are used in the opening credits
First I
looked at how films use fonts in order to portray a certain overall theme of
the film. For instance in the film THE UNTOUCHABLES they use a shining
animation which moves with the background. The timing of the reflective
animation moves in time with the music, and is quite a sophisticated looking
font. The font loses its animation when the names are less important therefore
showing who deserves the most credit.
I also did
some research, myself, into what type of fonts our own production could use and
I came up with these three.
First off was the 'BRUSHED' font, i liked it because it had a very down to earth realistic feel, which is good as the film that we are creating will most likely be along the guidelines of the dogma 95 film restrictions. Our film is going to be quite gritty and realistic so i think the font should be to.
I was also impressed by the 'GOOD Times' font as i felt it had great impact and makes each letter in the word very clear and easy to read.
The last font i looked at was 'HandTIMES' this font was interesting as it is a mix of formal and bold ad also sloppy and slightly infantile given the fact that the shading is really patchy.
Although it is too early to make any final decisions i would suggest we use the Brushed font as i believe it would best fit the story and feel of the film.
